I’m Albert Barnosell, editor and publisher of Tecnoyfoto, a project devoted to explaining technology, home automation, and computing in a practical and approachable way.

I have worked continuously with Home Assistant and related smart home technologies since November 2019. Most of my experience comes from daily use, installing real devices, building automations, and solving problems in a complex home automation system.

On Tecnoyfoto, I publish tutorials, product reviews, hands-on tests, and solutions for both newcomers and readers who want to build more advanced setups.

Home Assistant and smart home experience

I started using Home Assistant in November 2019. Since then, I have installed, tested, and documented numerous devices, integrations, and communication systems in a real home environment.

I regularly work with Home Assistant OS, ESPHome, Zigbee, Zigbee2MQTT, ZHA, MQTT, Wi-Fi devices, environmental sensors, energy meters, relays, HVAC systems, and home automations.

In addition to my primary home installation, I use separate hardware and environments to run tests, reproduce errors, and verify procedures before turning them into tutorials. I do more than confirm that a device appears in Home Assistant: I also examine day-to-day behavior, connection stability, local control, cloud dependence, and recovery after updates or restarts.

ESPHome experience

ESPHome is one of the tools I regularly use to build custom sensors and devices. I have worked with ESP8266 and ESP32 boards and with sensors for temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, air quality, light, rain, energy use, and other measurements intended for direct integration with Home Assistant.

My tutorials explain the required configuration as well as the connection, power, calibration, and compatibility issues that may appear during a build. When a project has accuracy or safety limitations, I try to state them explicitly.

Computing, networking, and storage

Beyond home automation, Tecnoyfoto also covers home computing, Windows, local networks, storage, NAS servers, and computer configuration.

My goal is not simply to list technical specifications. I want to explain what a product actually adds, what difficulties it may present, and when it can be useful. When preparing a guide, I try to reproduce the process from the perspective of someone who needs to install, configure, or troubleshoot it from scratch.

How I test products and procedures

Whenever the type of content allows it, I personally test devices and procedures before publishing the article or video. Depending on the product, a test may include:

  • Initial installation and setup.
  • Pairing with Home Assistant or other platforms.
  • Compatibility with ESPHome, Zigbee2MQTT, ZHA, or MQTT.
  • Local operation and dependence on external services.
  • Connection stability and recovery after restarts.
  • Sensor and measurement accuracy.
  • Energy use and automation response.
  • Long-term use in real household situations.
  • Limitations, errors, and potential incompatibilities.

I do not present information taken only from a specification sheet or manufacturer documentation as first-hand experience. When I have not been able to verify something directly, I try to make that clear in the content.

Editorial policy

Tecnoyfoto content is prepared with a clear distinction between technical facts, hands-on experience, and personal opinion. Receiving a product for review does not guarantee a positive assessment. When I find a limitation, compatibility issue, or behavior that could be improved, I try to explain it clearly and in context.

Some articles contain affiliate links. Tecnoyfoto may receive a small commission when someone makes a purchase through those links, at no additional cost to the buyer. A potential commission does not determine the conclusions or replace hands-on testing. When content is sponsored or a brand has provided the product, that relationship must be disclosed transparently.

Use of artificial intelligence tools

Tecnoyfoto uses artificial intelligence tools to assist with selected research, organization, writing, and translation tasks. Before publication, I personally review the content, assess its technical consistency within my knowledge, and make any corrections I consider necessary. Tecnoyfoto retains the final decision to change, approve, or reject content and assumes editorial responsibility for its publication.

Updates and corrections

Home automation and computing change constantly. An update to Home Assistant, ESPHome, firmware, or an app can alter a procedure that previously worked. Articles may therefore be updated to reflect changes, correct errors, or adapt instructions to newer versions.

When I identify a mistake, my policy is to correct it and provide current information instead of preserving an explanation that is no longer valid. Reader comments and contributions also help identify changes, broken links, and situations that should be tested again.

The purpose of Tecnoyfoto

My goal is to make technology easier to understand and use. I do not want to show only perfect configurations. I also explain mistakes, tests that failed, and the solutions I had to apply, because that is often the most useful information for someone attempting the same project at home.
